How it works: the core production steps

The core steps of silicone production remain consistent across applications:

  1. Silicon Extraction: High-purity silicon is isolated from quartz sand at ~1800°C.

  2. Synthesis: Silicon reacts with methyl chloride to form methyl chlorosilanes.

  3. Distillation: Separation of chlorosilanes ensures chemical purity.

  4. Hydrolysis: Water is added to form siloxanes and disilanol.

  5. Polymerization: Long-chain polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) polymers are formed which are the base for most silicone elastomers.

Flexion uses this polymer as the foundation for Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR), High Consistency Rubber (HCR), and Room Temperature Vulcanized (RTV) silicones across diverse industries.
